12:04 pm
ymca services have been canceled for the day. we're learning that those remains found on the vre tracks near the manassas park station may not be human. however, we're still waiting to hear from the medical examiner's office for a positive identification. a package was discovered around 6:00 yesterday evening in the middle of the evening rush hour. police had to close the track for many hours which meant major delays for vre commuters. four vre trains were stopped on the tracks stranding more than 1500 commuters and it took more than two hours for some commuters to make it home. it was a much smoother commute, however, this morning, on metro's red line. around 8:00 yesterday morning, there was a power problem near the gallaudet station. and that slowed trains down. then an hour later, there was another power problem, his one occurring in northwest

. maryland voters will ultimately decide on a referendum in november about whether gambling should be expanded in the state. if a new casino opens at national harbor in prince george's county, it will likely
12:10 pm
affect neighboring montgomery county. so i have our montgomery county executive ike leggett here with me today. it is always a delight to have you. i understand they're going to be meeting with executives of prince george's county and howard county. >> we'll be announcing support for the casino in prince george's county. we're not supporting one in howa county or montgomery county. but i think the voters should look careful and vote to approve the came seen know in prince george's county. here's why. first of all, there will be 12,000 jobs overall. 4,000 of those jobs or more will be permanent jobs. right now large numbers of marylanders, including from montgomery county, are going to west virginia. and so much of the negative ads thatou see out there is coming from west virginia because they do not want this referendum because the competition would suggest those dollars will stay in maryland to help our schools, help our deficit overall. we need to keep those jobs here
12:11 pm
in maryland. >> besides jobs, how much tax money will be coming to the state if we have another casino? >> we think probably around $200 million just on a conservative side. that's a huge amount of money when you consider that money right now already exists. now, you may be for or against gambling, but it's already here. the question right now is how do you better manage that and do you provide at the -- you provide the expense needed for table games which will get additional visitors to national harbor. i think the county executive has made a strong case for it. t. in men ways it will help not only prince george's county but the state of maryland as well. that $200 million would mean fewedollars will be taken from our taxpayers and we'll generate additional taxes, additional jobs and there's a very strong case for it. >> we have maryland live, the new casino that opened up. there are some who say we have enough casinos. we don't need any more gambling
12:12 pm
in our area. how do you respond to that, especially the churches who are very much against it? >> that argument was passed several years ago. if you're concerned that the slot parlors as you have now in the state of maryland are preying on the poor -- this is good not only for the taxpayers but good for expanding and reducing the amount of people who would go into the parlors because you have more visitors and higher people, higher income people -- higher income people in effect going to those gambling casinos in the state. >> montgomery county-- >> not for howard county or montgomery county but for prince george's county. if voters want it there, they should have that option. >> thank you for being with us. i'll see you next month. coming up, howard is going to have the the forecast.

she joins us from los angeles. you had a great freshman year. you got the comedy award for favorite couple. how do you top that going to season two? >> we're so lucky. it was such a great year last year. the writers, if you can believe it, have made it even more crazy and put them in even more humiliating situations. we'll see the cupcake business start to grow from what happened in the finale. so much more this year. we've shot six so far and some of the best so far so i'm excited for everyone to see it. >> she's talking about the cupcake business. you and max played by kat dennings are trying to get a cupcake business off the ground. but you need $250,000. you don't make a lot. >> no. we work at a retrowilliamsburg diner in brooklyn so we don't make even close to that kind of money so we have to figure out other ways to get our business off the ground. it's true to life. it's hard to start a business

>> i have to ask you a question. you went to classical training and theater. you're a singer. now you're doing a sitcom. do you get looked down upon by the real theater actors. you have a good paying gig so good for you? >> you know, it's funny. theater is changing nowadays, too. there's a lot of crossover i feel like between, you know, tv and theater in today's three ter world. -- theater worse. i'll always be a musical theater girl at heart even though i'm on a sitcom. broadway is still a goal of mine. i hope they don't look down on that. >> you can watch the season two premier ofdy 2 broke girls "-- of "2 broke girls" next monday on wusa9. let's switchgears and get you the forecast. a chilly morning. temperatures cooled down in the 40s. we're looking at temperatures this afternoon going to the mid, even upper 70s. winds shifting out of the southeast.

only about 5 miles an hour. i know it was a bit brisk early, but what beautiful evening we're going to have, too. you have plans, maybe you're going out to the ballpark. maybe the nationals can clinch the wild card berth. 71 for the first pitch. latter innings will be falling into the upper 60s. i think a light jacket or sweat shirt is warranted. lows got down to 42 in gaithersburg. 41 cumberland. there was a touch of fog in a couple of spots like culpeper, warrenton, frederick. we stayed in the 60s. i think there will be a little more fog tonight with a little more moisture around. temperatures as of noon, still in the mid and upper 60s here in the shenandoah valley out to manassas. it's 70 in baltimore. 71 in andrews. here in d.c. it is a gorgeous afternoon. look at the sky conditions. got these high thin clouds on our michael & son weather camera. we're looking into tysons corner right now. so very pretty midday here. 71 degrees officially at reagan national. it's sunny out there but the

you must be so proud. >> nick: did you look into tucker buying up chunks of newman stock? >> sharon: tucker is not the problem. i am not the problem. you and victoria are the reason this company is slipping. >> victoria: did that shrink test you for delusions? because my guess is you would fail that test. >> sharon: you two have undermined and sabotaged me at every turn. you've embarrassed this company with your public tantrums and by dragging me into court. you let wall street and the press make us into a punch line. you have investors running scared because you two have your father's ego and you lack his common sense. when victor walked away, that put me in charge, and now i have to clean up the mess you've made, and you two are gonna help me do it. >> victoria: and on what planet would we help you? >> sharon: you say all you care about is making right by newman enterprises? well, then, you prove it,
12:51 pm
because i'm going to call a press conference, and if what you really care about is this company, then you and the board of directors will stand by me and with me. you will get up there and say that i have your faith and support as newman's c.e.o. >> billy: genny filled me in. the docks are a land mine and no one gives a rat's ass if anyone gets hurt. that needs to change, but come on, man, look at yourself. you're hurt. you need some backup. that's just me, being the voice of reason. granted, i don't have a lot of practice at being said voice of reason, but there it is. >> victor: i don't know what you're talking about. what-- you must have confused him or something. >> billy: oh, okay, okay. you know i'm a journalist. let me blow this wide open, and then you can sit right there on your barstool, far away from all this mess. >> victor: oh, now i know what you want. no, i don't work that way. i-i-i don't need your help.
12:52 pm
>> billy: typical. >> genevieve: (sighs) >> billy: (chuckles) >> victor: (sets bottle down) ah.

>> genevieve: christian, billy knows people and he wants to help you, so let him. >> victor: what do you mean, you want to help me? i-i-i don't want to work with the press. >> billy: i understand, but let me get this story out there. i can expose what's going on at the docks, see how widespread it is. public outcry can get you considerably more than a man with a bum hand. come on. >> victor: yeah, but then why don't you talk to the workers and get your story? >> genevieve: i thought you said the workers wouldn't talk. >> victor: well... i guess you ain't got no story.
12:58 pm
>> billy: (sighs) >> genevieve: wow. well, that was productive. now what do we do? >> billy: i'm gonna get that s.o.b. to trust me if it kills me. >> genevieve: i thought you were gonna tell that s.o.b. that he was victor newman. >> billy: who says i can't do both? (knocks on table) >> phyllis: i'm going to court, i'm going to court. when? wh-wh-what-- i-i-i thought we had more time. >> michael: uh, the clerk will contact you with a date shortly. >> phyllis: how did that happen? >> michael: another defendant settled, took a plea. i know you've refused before, but, phyllis, i would really suggest you do the same thing. >> phyllis: okay. is that why you're here, to tell me to give up and go to prison? >> michael: (sighs) call leslie, tell her to approach heather. >> phyllis: no.
12:59 pm
i'm not putting on an orange jumpsuit and i'm not rotting in a jail cell, okay? >> michael: you might not have a choice. if you're convicted, you will get more jail time than if you cut a deal now. >> phyllis: i'm not leaving my family, michael. >> michael: look around you! sweetheart, your family's not here. if you took a plea... if you spared them the anger, the angst, the frustration by telling the truth just once, if you--if you trusted them, the people who love you-- they will understand. >> phyllis: what about the people who hate me? what are you gonna do, dance on my grave? >> ronan: hey. i heard you were back. >> chris: what is wrong
